WTC Crawl MK2

Stanlar wrote...

uhmmm .. "hanging" is the only way to describe the aftermath of the WTC Crawl MK2 ..

The evening started off with a 100 yard sprint for the usual mode of drinking transport (The Number 10 Bus) ... Literally having to flag it down as it pulled away from the buzzstop ..

The original plan being to get the buzz and head to Baker Street (which is over at the other side of Gloucester), Claude, however (and surprisingly with his gargantuan feet) somehow managed to miss the buzz and was late on parade. This probably did us a favour though, as Baker Street is a bit of a shit hole (or was last time I visited it) .. which meant we decided to meet Claude (who in fact is called Alan ... ) in the Northend Vaults.

Northend Vaults

This place has seen better days, but Jugz put some old favourites on the jukebox .. The Jam and The Clash ... and just as Claude (a.k.a Martin, a.k.a Alan, a.k.a Allan) turned up, the sounds of Stiff Little Fingers were being blasted out .. The tunes and the banter between the lads made the atmosphere in the pub pretty good, until some of the other regulars there decided to put, what can only be described as "X Factor like shite" on the jukebox instead .. Anyway, enough of that drinks finished and off to the next pub .. Golfy, Golfy what's the plan ..

Sod Baker Street and the Tall Ships, too far to walk ..

A quick trip down towards Kingsholm to the place affectionately known as "The Jockey" (The Kingsholm Inn), decent boozer to be honest, and they even did "fhree Carling" ..  Myself and Claude enlightened the other lads to the "spot of bother" that occurred in the Wagon last Saturday .. and the "haymakers" being swung around in the bar ..

The Jockey

Anyway from there the crawl continued via the Cathedral to the Dick Whittington.

The Dick

This place used to be heaving at one time, but seems to have died a bit of a death since the demise of K.C's. Still having said that the Dick Whit is a decent boozer, shame about the lack of punters in there .. maybe it does a decent lunchtime or weekend trade ? Well pub number 4 is now calling .. so a quick two minute walk up Westgate Street led us to The Union, and the Gloucester equivalent of the karaoke night at the Salisbury (Chelt ..) ..

The Union

The Union is a decent enough boozer .. but the karaoke night isn't a patch on the karaoke night at The Salisbury .. still the pub itself is decent enough .. but yet another Gloucester pub that struggles for custom on a Thursday ..

Pints dispatched and a quick jaunt through Bull Lane and a stop at The Cross Keys, we've done this place before on the WTC Crawl MK1 and it proved to be a decent Thursday evening boozer (and one of the busier places in Gloucester .. ).

The Cross Keys Inn

The thoughts of ever getting to the Water Poet afterwards seemed to evaporate after about the 3rd pint the Cross Keys  .. Thursday night at the Cross Keys tends to mean a band of some description, and Eric the Yank (or whatever he was called .. ), managed (by request) to play pretty much everything we asked for .. although Claude had to leave the premises when a rendition of "Stairway to Heaven" was being played .. obviously not one of Claude's favourites ..

Getting the 8th pint of the evening down proved too much for my liver, and Claude (being a well known alcoholic) had to help out in dispatching this pint for me .. Golfy soldiered on though and struggled through his pint, opening the gap between me and him at the top of the WTC leader board even further .. (although Golfy foolishly has booked himself a weeks holiday at the end of November .. he'll miss out on at least one WTC Thurs night out .. which means the top spot is still up for grabs) ...

After Claude (a.k.a Martin, a.k.a. Alan, a.k.a Allan. a.k.a Eric Clapton) amazed his with his guitar skills .. the usual post pub junk food trip was needed before getting a cab and heading off for some kip .. (although Golfy decided he was in need of Pizza and a walk home to walk of the effects of the extra lager he'd had ..) ..

The usual quality night out and there was mention of the WTC Crawl MK3 (Cheltenham) next week .. so Golfy, Golfy .. what's the plan ..  ?
